Stomach bloating has a wide range of causes.
Gassy foods and drinks are often the main offenders.
Treatment advice usually consists of cutting out wheat and fizzy drinks but there is another way to beat the bloat.
According to Dr Oz, the following drink recipes can help sooth the swelling.
Lemon Peppermint Ice Cubes
Indigestion is a common culprit of bloating.
Dr Oz said: “Peppermint improves the flow of bile to digest fats better. Lemon adds flavor so you won’t have to use sweeteners that can also cause bloating.”
2 1/2 cups lemon juice
15 peppermint leaves
Freeze peppermint leaves in lemon juice in an ice cube tray.
Add 3 cubes to every glass of water at least 3 times a day, or with meals.

“A diet high in salt can bring on the bloat, causing your body to retain water. Pomegranate juice contains magnesium and potassium to counteract this. Tabasco has capsaicin to increase urine flow and rid your body of excess salt,” he said.
This non-alcoholic beverage also helps banish the hidden bloating effects of alcohol, added Dr Oz.
1 cup low-sugar pomegranate juice
1/8 tsp Tabasco sauce
1/2 cup ginger ale
Anti-Bloat Chocolate Berry Smoothie
Constipation is a chief cause of bloating. According to Dr Oz: “High-fibre berries aid constipation, and the caffeine in chocolate stimulates bowel movement.
“Difficulty digesting lactose in milk is also a contributor to bloating, so try almond milk as a lactose-free substitute.”
1 cup strawberries
1 cup raspberries
2 tbsp dark chocolate chips
1 cup almond milk
1 cup ice
Combine ingredients and blend
It is also advisable to avoid alcohol. Alcohol consumption can cause indigestion, a common culprit of bloating.
Drinkaware said: “Drinking can also make it more difficult to digest food and absorb vital nutrients, particularly proteins and vitamins.
“That’s because alcohol reduces the amount of digestive enzymes which the pancreas produces to help us to break down the fats and carbohydrates we eat.”
Alcohol can also exacerbate Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms – an underlying cause of stomach bloating, the charity added.
According to the NHS, other effective remedies include eating oats regularly and avoiding foods that are difficult to digest like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels, sprouts, beans, onions and dried fruit.
